Rayograms...

I thought my rayogram prints turned out really well, I liked the fact that they were a dark grey in the top print, rather than a black. Although I wasn't entirely sure what I was doing half the time with all the elements I could change, it was useful to just have a go and see what happened.

Looking at other stop motion animations...

In this video I like the use of the photographs being built up, I think it's very effective, you would need a lot of photos though! It's a technique worth considering...

I like how you can see the figures being drawn and manipulated in this piece. He has used a white board which is really clever - he hasn't had to keep drawing out the same thing and changing it slightly - very efficient way of working - however you wouldn't have any copies and once the figure is rubbed out it's gone! would have to be very well planned out first!

Here's a few examples from PES - I like how objects are used instead of drawings, some of his work is really simple and short too, but really clever and effective!

I thought the use of something like post it notes as they're easy to move around and manipulate.

I love the use of people an objects again to narrate a story, thought it was really well executed. Would have taken a lot of planning.

I like the simplicity of this piece, the model was brought to life, and there were minimum characters.

Print to Pixel

Right, I got Audio 4 - ''Bach Goldberg Variation 1'' - so far so good, quite like it...

I've listened to it a few times now, and with it being 1:51 long, I've decided to stick to the first 30 seconds already just to make things simpler for myself. I'm also focusing on this section because the music changes tempo and gives an area for the climax of the animation in the late middle area of the tune, and has quite a clear finishing part which would be a nice place to cut it.

The Final Poster: Elastic band ball inspired piece...

For this piece I used 100 strips of paper to create the ball, and decided to print the information on strips rather than adding it later...

The strips of paper and start of the ball as I built it up, wrapping each strip around the ball, tucking the strips into each other to hold it into place.

I started to photograph the piece using an infinity background, and altering the white balance, and used different lighting to get a range of photo's to choose and work from...

This was the first poster/image I created. I felt however that the positioning and sizing and everything was just off with this piece. The brief requires the poster to be portrait and I feel this particular poster would be more effective landscape, therefore I tried out a different composition

I really like this piece, I prefer the image in black and white, and the positioning for the whole piece is a lot stronger than before. I like how the paper structure incorporates the information in a simple type face, rather than just being an image accompanied by text.

I also like the use of just one plain coloured paper, with a consistent texture, so that the image and idea behind it is there, without distracting the audience from the information which I feel colours and textures could do.

I also feel the context of this piece is strong, influenced by an elastic band ball, the piece is made up of 100 strips of paper, and it was built up from nothing, constantly adding to it, and it can and will continue to grow.

Continuing with the poster designs...

I looked back at some images I already had from earlier creations using paper. Looking for some clear sections within the images which I could work with, having the strips or sections to represent the 100 years.

I found this image and liked how the spiral came outwards towards the forefront of the image. I also liked how the spiral had more shadow and less focus in the back, showing its depth. Incorporating the text is a stronger way of using the image I think, as the reader/audience's eyes would follow the spiral round to read the text, which I think is very engaging.

However, I'm not sure the concept of the poster is strong enough, so I'll experiment a bit more...
