To make the complicated pattern I used the pattern I created out of the cut outs:
I scanned this image in, applied the steps to make it repeat, and filled in the remaining area with the elements I had been using to create these cut outs.
This made the pattern very busy and ornate. I find that this pattern works well in how you can't find where it repeats very easily.
